Love at First Sip: The Cosmopolitan
“Have you ever been in love? … Abso-fing-lutely."
And while John wouldn’t be her soulmate until years later, she had the Cosmopolitan to keep her company until he was. The drink that defined an era of Manhattan glamour, symbolizing independence, friendship, and the search for the "real deal."
For Valentine’s Day, there is simply no better choice. The Cosmo is sophisticated, vibrant, and - much like the best relationships - it packs a perfectly balanced punch of sweet and tart. It’s a "grown-up" drink that feels high-effort but takes less than five minutes to pour, making it the ideal companion for a romantic night in.
Whether you're hosting a "Galentine's" bash or planning a candlelit dinner for two, a hand-shaken Cosmo sets a mood that a bottle of wine just can’t match. It’s elegant, it’s iconic, easy to master at home. It's abso-fing-lutely the best way to toast to love this month.

Shopping List
Vodka (Ideally Citrus Vodka) : 1.5 oz
Cointreau: 1 oz (The gold standard for orange liqueur—much smoother than standard Triple Sec, Grand Marnier works too)
Fresh Limes: 0.5 oz of juice (About half a large lime; fresh is non-negotiable!)
Cranberry Juice: 0.5 oz (Use a high-quality "Cranberry Juice Cocktail" for that signature blush)
Garnish: 1 Fresh Orange (for the peel) or a few fresh raspberries for a romantic twist.
Glass: Martini or Coupe glass
Preparation
Chill the Glass: Place your martini glass or coupe in the freezer for 10 minutes, or fill it with ice and water while you mix the drink. Ice cold glass.
The Mix: Combine the citrus vodka, Cointreau, fresh lime juice, and cranberry juice in a cocktail shaker.
The Shake: Fill the shaker to the brim with ice. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for at least 15–20 seconds. You want the outside of the shaker to look frosted and feel freezing to the touch.
The Strain: Discard the ice/water from your chilled glass. Strain the mixture into the glass. (Pro tip: use a fine-mesh strainer to catch any tiny ice shards for a crystal-clear look).
The Garnish: Take a thin strip of orange peel. Twist it over the glass to "spritz" the citrus oils onto the surface, then drop it in. For a Valentine's touch, skewer two raspberries to resemble a pair of hearts.
Pro Tip
REAL Lime Juice: ALWAYS use real lime juice.
Get a stainless steel lemon and lime squeezer: Most drinks you’ll make take 0.5 oz of lime Juice. How much is that? Every lime will produce approximately 1 oz of lime juice (that means squeeze half a lime into your mix).
Ice Matters: Use fresh ice. Old ice will change the flavour.
