Vancouver Housing Starts Surge 21% in March 2026

Infographic showing March 2026 Vancouver housing starts by type, featuring a 21% total increase and 1,716 new units.

Vancouver’s construction sector saw a significant jump this March, with total housing starts reaching 1,716 units - a 21% increase over March 2025.

While every sector showed growth, Apartments continue to be the primary engine of the market, jumping nearly 23% year-over-year. Even the often-lagging Town & Row House segment posted a strong 21.5% gain. This upward momentum in Q1 suggests that despite high input costs, developers are pushing forward to meet the region's critical inventory needs.

Key Year-Over-Year Highlights:

  • Apartments: 1,361 starts (+22.9%)

  • Town & Row: 79 starts (+21.5%)

  • Semi-Detached: 116 starts (+18.4%)

  • Single Houses: 160 starts (+8.1%)
